Mary McDonald was born about 1849 in Scotland, she married Donald Graham, a blacksmith, in Glasgow on 6 October 1874.

They emigrated to Wellington in 1875 on the Avalanche.

Mary and Donald had two children — in the 1880s, the family settled in Ravensbourne, Dunedin where Mary signed the suffrage petition.

Donald died at his home in 1911 and Mary died in Dunedin on 10 June 1919.

They are both buried in the Northern Cemetery.
