Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Mary was born about 1857 in Scotland and was married to Thomas Hampton, a railway guard.

They do not  appear to have had any children and when Mary signed the suffrage petition they were living in Outram, West Taieri.

Shortly after this they moved to Lawrence, then to Dunedin in 1898.

Mary died at her home in Dunedin on 13 May 1925 and Thomas re-married the following year.

He died in 1942 and is buried with Mary in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
