Mary Hannah Eddy (born Pearce) moved to New Zealand from Cornwall with husband Peter Eddy and one-year-old son Thomas in 1874. They were government-assisted migrants, arriving on the Ocean Mail. She was aged 23 at the time. They arrived in Nelson, but later settled in Napier, living on Thackeray St. In New Zealand they had a further seven children.

Mary died in 1921, aged 72.
