Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Mary Treblicock was born about 1838 in Gwennap, Cornwall – the daughter of John Treblicock and Johanna Penrose.

She married William Harvey, a miner, in Gwennap on 16 June 1857.

They 'went to the Australian diggings, and later drifted to Cromwell and Shotover, thence to Westport & Charleston.'

They arrived in Reefton in the early 1870s and their only son was born in 1879 while William worked as a mine manager.

When Mary signed the suffrage petition they were living at Black’s Point, near Reefton.

William died in 1913 and Mary died at the Reefton Hospital on 18 October 1922 - they are buried together in the Reefton Cemetery.
