Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Mary Jane McCrossan was born about 1858.

She married James Langskail, a fellmonger, in New Zealand in 1882 and they had seven children.

When Mary signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Bluff.

In 1898, when their youngest child was two-years-old, Mary was admitted to Seacliff Mental Hospital suffering from 'delusional insanity'- she was transferred to Poriura Mental Hospital in 1900.

James died in 1899, he is buried in the Gore Cemetery. Later that year the Gore Orchestral Society held a benefit concert 'for the aid of the orphaned family' which raised £25 12s 6d.

Mary died on 17 November 1920, she is buried in the Porirua Cemetery.
