Mary Jane Muir was born about 1840.
She married John Norman, a labourer, on 12 January 1863 in Dunedin and they had six children.
They lived at Waitahuna until 1882 when their house was destroyed by fire, after which they moved to Dunedin.
When Mary signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Gisborne St, South Dunedin.
John died at their home in 1894 and Mary died at their daughter’s home in South Dunedin on 23 July 1908 – they are buried together in the Southern Cemetery.
