Mary Jane Oliver was born in Cheshire, England in 1864 – the daughter of Henry Oliver, an engine machinist, and Jane Tidmas.
She emigrated to New Zealand with her family in 1879 on the Hereford and when Mary signed the suffrage petition she was living with her widowed father in Reid St, South Dunedin.
She married James McIntosh in 1894 and they had one daughter.
Mary died at her home on 5 May 1931 and James died in 1944 – they are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
