Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Mary Boyle was born about 1866, possibly in Ireland – the daughter of Timothy Boyle and Mary Ford.

She married farmer David Kay on 12 July 1886 at Knox Church in Dunedin.

They had, at least, seven children and although Mary signed the suffrage petition in Gore at the time they were living in Mataura.

David owned traction engines and ran a threshing mill.

Mary died on 12 June 1931 and David died in 1939 – they are buried together in the Mataura Cemetery.
