Mary Lyon Devitt McDade was born about 1845 in Scotland.
She married Joseph Horace Keen, a labourer, on October 1st 1872 in Greenock. They had a son before they emigrated to New Zealand about 1874.
They had a further 6 children, one who died in infancy and one who was stillborn.
They lived in Seacliff, Palmerston, and Flag Swamp before moving back to Palmerston in 1890 where Mary signed the suffrage petition and Joseph was working as a railway labourer.
They later lived in Milton before moving to Invercargill where Joseph worked as a boilermaker.
Mary died on May 2nd 1909 in Invercargill. She is buried with two of their children in the Waikouaiti Cemetery.
Joseph died in 1934, and is buried in the Invercargill Eastern Cemetery.
