Mary Elizabeth Kenward was born in 1868 in New Zealand, the daughter of Frederick William Kenward and Jessie McLay.
When Mary signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in Waikouaiti, north of Dunedin.
She married Samuel Flannery in 1899. He died in 1904, and is buried in the Waikouaiti Cemetery.
Mary remarried in 1908 to Henry John Pavitt, a shipping agent. They had one son.
Mary died on January 12th 1916 at her home in Cobden, near Greymouth. Her burial place is unclear.
Her obituary said she “had earned the love and respect of all with whom she came in contact in the daily round of life, and her demise will be sincerely regretted by a large circle of friends.”
Henry died in 1922 in Wellington Hospital. He is buried in the Karori Cemetery.
