Mary Laurie King was born in 1870 in New Zealand – the daughter of Thomas King and Jane Lunam.
When Mary signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family at Awamoko in North Otago.
She married Patrick Pringle Dickson, a widower and fireman with three children, in 1915.
They lived for a time in Bluff and Oamaru before they retired to Waimate.
Patrick died there in 1952 and Mary died on 29 January 1961, they are buried together in the Waimate Old Cemetery.
