Mary Laing was born about 1845 in Stirlingshire, Scotland – the daughter of David Laing, a granary man, and Isabella Hay.
She came to New Zealand with her family in 1858 on the “Three Bells” and they settled in Dunedin.
Mary did not marry and when she signed the suffrage petition she was living in Kaikorai, Dunedin.
She died on 20 November 1930 at her nephew’s home in Mornington – she is buried with her parents in the Southern Cemetery.
