Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Mary was born about 1828 in County Clare, Ireland.

She came to New Zealand, probably with her husband Patrick McNamara in the early 1870s.

When Mary signed the suffrage petition she was living at Port Molyneux and Patrick was gold mining at Preservation Inlet.

Mary died on 24 May 1893 and was found in her bed by her neighbour a day later.

An inquest found that death was from natural causes, probably heart disease.

Mary is buried in the Port Molyneux Cemetery - Patrick’s date and place of death are unknown.
