Mary McJannet was born in Ayr, Scotland on 1 January 1858 in Ayr, Scotland – the daughter of Jane McJannet.

She married Morris McCreadie, a stonemason, in Ayr in 1877 and they emigrated to Otago in 1879 on the Cape Clear. They settled in Dunedin and had two sons.

When Mary signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Dundas St.

Mary died on 29 January 1917 and Morris died in 1921, they are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
