Mary Emma Campion was born about 1843.

She married George Willis Nichol, a salesman, on 9 November 1870 at Christ Church, Nelson.

They lived in Greymouth for a few years before moving to Ocean Beach near Bluff where they built their home 'Glenfoyle'.

This is where Emma signed the suffrage petition and they had five children.

George died in 1907 and Mary died at her home on 18 September 1929, they are buried in the family grave in the Bluff Cemetery.
