Mary Colvin was born on March 3rd 1866 in County Armagh, Northern Ireland – the daughter of Thomas Colvin and Mary Ann Preston.
She emigrated to Auckland with her family in 1880 on the Wanganui and she married James Riach, a stonemason, in 1883.
They had 3 children in New Zealand before the family moved to Victoria, Australia where their next 2 children were born.
They had returned to New Zealand by 1892 - Mary signed the suffrage petition at Lambeth Rd, Dunedin.
Their last 3 children were born in Dunedin.
James died in 1938 and Mary died at her home on March 11th 1950. They are buried in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
