Mary Campbell Kincaid was born about 1851 in Renfrewshire, Scotland – the daughter of James Kincaid, a blacksmith, and Agnes Johnston.
She emigrated to Victoria, Australia with her family in the 1850s and came to Otago in the mid-1860s.
Mary married John Simon, a boot importer, on 26 August 1874 in Ponsonby, Auckland.
They had four children and when Mary signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Union St, Dunedin.
John died in 1912 and Mary died on 17 February 1936 – they are buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
