Mary Hughes was born about 1860.
She married John Taylor, a farmer, in New Zealand in 1888 and they had four children.
When Mary signed the suffrage petition the family were living at Riverside near Port Molyneux.
John died in 1901 at Riverslea, Balclutha and Mary died on 22 July 1938 in Invercargill, they are buried together in the Port Molyneux Cemetery.
