George Templeton was born on Christmas Day, 1850 in Alloa, Scotland. He wed Mary Kerr in Selkirk in 1871. The couple came to New Zealand on the ship Canterbury and landed in Lyttleton. They lived in Kaiapoi and George worked at the Kaiapoi woollen mills.
