Mary Drysdale Leishman was born on 27 January 1843 in Alloa, Clackmannanshire, Scotland – the daughter of James Leishman and Mary Ure.
She emigrated to New Zealand where she married Charles Warren, a labourer, on 13 May 1863 in Dunedin.
They had 10 children and when Mary signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Harbour Terrace.
Charles died in 1897 and Mary died on 7 November 1909 – they are buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
