Mary Landreth was born in 1864 in New Zealand – the daughter of Robert Landreth, a farmer, and Helen Luke.

She married Alexander Weir in 1887 and they had three daughters.

When Mary signed the suffrage petition the family were living at Highcliff on the Otago Peninsula.

Mary died on 10 September 1933 in Dunedin and Alexander died the following year.

They are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
