Mary Woods was born in 1868 in York, Yorkshire, England in 1868 – the daughter of Thomas Woods, a blacksmith, and Ann Scruton Waters.
Mary’s family emigrated to New Zealand in 1879 on the Otaki and settled in Dunedin.
On 24 May 1895, at her home, Mary married Sydney Francis Bridgman, an accountant. They lived in Burnside, Dunedin and had three children, two dying in infancy.
Sydned worked as an accountant for H E Shacklock for 30 years, he died at his home in Manor Place, Dunedin in 1938.
Mary died on 16 September 1954, she was cremated and her ashes buried with Sydney in the Southern Cemetery.
