Maryann Garrett was born Mary Ann Restieaux on 8 October 1829, St Pancras, London, England to William George Restieaux and Anne Restieaux nee Mason.
On 29 December 1848 Mary Ann Restieaux was admitted to the Camden Work House.
Marry Ann married three times to; Henry Edward Watts on 5 March 1857 in Christchurch, Thomas Turner in 1862 in Christchurch and to Samuel Thomas Garrett in 1868 (not verified).
On 17 August 1888 the local newspaper reports that Mary Ann Garrett, Widow of Waimate made an application under the Adoption of Children Act 1881, to adopt a 21-month child, William Walter Bagust, an illegitimate child, with the consent of both parents.
In 1892 Mary Ann Garrett signed the Women’s Suffrage Petition Roll, Sheet 221.
In 1893 Mary Ann Garrett, widow was living in Waimate. At the time of her death she was living at Rhodes Street, Waimate.
She died on 18 June 1915 in Waimate. She is buried in the Waimate Old cemetery, Anglican area, Plot 000052. Also buried in the same Plot is Samuel Thomas Garrett. He died on 6 April 1884 age 45 years.
Her daughter, Ann Alice Bertha Vernon nee Turner also signed the Petition – see Sheet 231.
