Elizabeth Maude Crossley was born in 1863, in Cambridgeshire, England, to William George Crossley, dentist, and his wife Mary Ann (nee Walls). By 1880 the family had immigrated to Northland, New Zealand. Maud married Wesley Hare in 1882 and settled in Kaeo. The couple became 7th Day Adventists in 1885 and worked to establish the Church in Kaeo and Auckland. They had Philip Wesley (1882-), Wilfred Joseph (1884-) and Lawrence Metcalfe (1891-). By 1905 they were living in Kensington park, Whangarei, and they were involved with building the SDA school in Hamilton. They later immigrated to Miles, Queensland, Australia, where Maud died in 1915.
