Williamina Murray was born in South Otago in 1870 – the daughter of William McGregor Murray, a farmer, and Grace Roy. (See 110 Grace Murray)

When Williamina signed the suffrage petition she was living on the family farm 'Meadowbank' at  Wairuna, South Otago.

She married John Edwin Macfarlane, a railway officer, in 1898 and they lived in Balclutha.

John died in Dunedin in 1925 and Williamina lived in Dunedin until her death on 29 August 1965, they are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
