Biographical information provided by Stefanie Lash for the He Tohu exhibition:
Minnie Maude Stagg was born in Stoke, Nelson, in 1878 to William and Christina Stagg (nee Hasse). At the age of 18 she married Henry Onion, a shepherd, and they lived in lower Wairau. Minnie and Henry had five children. Henry died in 1906, at the age of 38, and the following year Minnie remarried to Francis Reesby.
This sheet of the Women’s Suffrage Petition has signatures on it mainly from central Auckland, but also quite a few from Collingwood, in the Tasman district. Perhaps Minnie was visiting Auckland when she signed the Petition.
