Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Minnie/Marion Simpson was born about 1873 in Glasgow, Scotland – the daughter of Mary Simpson. (See 40 Mary Simpson)

She came to New Zealand with her family in the mid-1870s and they settled in Dunedin.

When Minnie signed the suffrage petition she was living with her mother in Josephine St, Caversham.

She married William Lawfield, an engineer, on 26 April 1900 in Dunedin and they had three children.

They later moved to Timaru where William died in 1930 and Minnie died on 22 February 1944 – they are buried together in the Timaru Cemetery.
