Marion/Minnie McMillan was born on 2 July 1869 in Cambusnethan, Lanarkshire, Scotland – the daughter of George McMillan, a shoemaker, and Jane Prentice.

She emigrated to Otago with her family in 1883 on the “Victory” and they settled in Dunedin.

Marion married James Walker, a mill worker,  on 25 December 1890 at her home in Kaikorai.

They had two children and when Marion signed the suffrage petition they were living in Church St, Roslyn.

Their son died in 1917 and their daughter died in 1918.

Marion died at her home on 18 September 1944 and James died in 1950 – they are buried with their children in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
