Miriam Adams was born in 1868 in New Zealand – the daughter of George Adams, a news vendor, and Isabella Hogg.
She married James Edward Offen on 30 January 1889 in Melbourne, Australia. They had a son in 1891 before returning to New Zealand.
They settled in Dunedin where they had a further three children and when Miriam signed the suffrage petiton the family were living in Forth Street.
They celebrated their Silver Wedding anniversary in 1914 at their home in Hall St, South Dunedin.
James died there in 1930 and Miriam died on 22 October 1937 – they are buried in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
