Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Catherine/Kitty Clouston was born in 1867 in New Zealand – the daughter of Charles Clouston and Margaret Linklater.
In 1886 Catherine’s father obtained the post of sexton of the Northern Cemetery in Dunedin and when she signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family at the Northern Cemetery, probably in the historic Sexton’s Cottage, working as a dressmaker.
She married James Osborn, a blacksmith, on 11 April 1895 in Dunedin - they do not appear to have had any children.
Kitty died at her father’s house on 3 December 1899, 'after a short illness', she is buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
James re-married, he died in 1952 and was cremated.
