Emily Hicks was born in 1870 in Berkshire, England – the daughter of Alfred Hicks, an agricultural labourer, and Jane Keen. (See 66 Mrs Hicks)
Emily emigrated to Otago with her family in 1875 on the Earl of Zetland and they settled in Dunedin.
When Emily signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Forbury Rd, St Clair.
She married Henry Fairley, a labourer, in 1905 and they had five daughters, one who died in childhood.
Emily died at her home on 29 August 1936 and Henry died in 1950, they are buried in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
