Eliza Amanda Pressly was born in 1870 in New Zealand – the daughter of John Hay Pressly, a market gardener, and Sophia Sullivan.

When Eliza signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in Andersons Bay, near Dunedin.

She was a supporter of the Society of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and she helped to raise money for the cause.

Eliza died on 17 March 1940 in Auckland – she is buried in the Waikumete Cemetery.
