Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Henrietta Clara Aburn was born on 1 March 1872 in Ampthill, Bedfordshire, England – the daughter of Samuel Aburn, a fancy shop keeper & insurance agent, and Elizabeth Ann Crimp. (See 42 Mrs Aburn)

She emigrated to Canterbury with her family in 1874 on the Mongol and they settled in Dunedin where her father worked as a builder.

When Henrietta signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in Leith St working as a tailoress.

She married William Haywood, a fellmonger, in 1895 and they had three children before William died in January 1904 - he is buried in the Heads Road Old Cemetery, Whanganui.

Two months later Henrietta gave birth to their fourth child.

She re-married in 1911 to William Delahunty – he died in 1943 in Palmerston North.

Henrietta died on 18 March 1967, she was cremated and her ashes are interred with her second husband in the Kelvin Grove Cemetery.
