Isabella Nash was born about 1857 in Cheltenham, Gloucester. She arrived in New Zealand about 1874. Isabella and James Augustus Horwood had fifteen children between 1875 and 1898, four dying in infancy. Isabella and James did not marry until November 1916.

James worked as a lithographer for a printer. The family lived in Dunedin and had a few years in Christchurch before returning to Dunedin about 1892.

The family lived in Rattray St where James died in 1917. Isabella died at Bird St, Dunedin on 22 October 1941 and is buried in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
