Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Jane Ann McLean was born on 26 June 1868 in Blair Atholl, Perthshire, Scotland – the daughter of John McLean, a meal miller, and Margaret Stewart. (See 149 Mrs McLean)

Jane’s family emigrated to New Zealand in the mid 1870s and when Jane signed the suffrage petition they were living in Felix St, North East Valley – she was working as a boot machinist.

Jane did not marry, she died on 1 February 1953 and is buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
