Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Amelia McLean was born on 2 February 1872 in Blair Atholl, Perthshire, Scotland – the daughter of John McLean, a meal miller, and Margaret Stewart. (See 149 Mrs McLean)

Amelia’s family emigrated to New Zealand in the mid 1870s and when she signed the suffrage petition they were living in Felix St, North East Valley.

She married Thomas Herbert Fawcett, a baker, on 11 March 1903 in Dunedin and they had three daughters.

The family moved to Masterton then to Auckland where Amelia died on 29 April 1949, she was cremated and her ashes are buried in the Waikumete Cemetery.

Thomas died in 1962, he was cremated at the Purewa Cemetery, Auckland.
