Sarah Chapman Pressly was born in 1872  in New Zealand – the daughter of John Hay Pressly, a market gardener, and Sophia Sullivan.

When Sarah signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in Andersons Bay, near Dunedin.

She married Arthur Wallace, a labourer, on 25 January 1895 in Andersons Bay and they had four children.

Arthur died in Dunedin in 1925 and Sarah died on 14 March 1960 – they are buried in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
