Alice Elizabeth Silvia Appoo was born in 1859 in New Zealand – the daughter of John Appoo, a miner from Sri Lanka, and Alice Handley.
The family lived, for a time, in Victoria where John died in 1861.
Alice’s mother re-married the following year and the family returned to New Zealand and lived at Brunnerton.
Alice’s step father died in a mining accident in 1869.
She married John Morris in 1878 and they had 10 children and when Alice signed the suffrage petition they were livening at Taylorville.
John died in 1917 and Alice died at her home in Taylorville on 30 June 1931 – they are buried together in the Stillwater Cemetery.
