Jessie Watt was born about 1852.
She married Henry Meighan, a leather cutter, on 5 September 1873 in Glasgow, Scotland. They had a daughter in 1874.
In 1875, the family emigrated to Otago on the Timaru. They settled in Dunedin and had a further six children.
When Jessie signed the suffrage petition, the family were living in Duncan Street.
Henry died in Dunedin in 1919. Jessie died on 8 October 1941 in Palmerston North. They are buried together in the Northern Cemetery, Dunedin.
