Elizabeth Harvie was born in Scotland about 1838, she married Alexander Aitken, a blacksmith, on 27 March 1857 in Cambusnethan, Lanarkshire.
They had a son before they emigrated to Otago in 1860 on the Bruce Meiklejohn.
A further 10 children were born in New Zealand, three of their children died in infancy.
When Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Athol Place, Dunedin.
Alexander died at his home in 1896 & Elizabeth died on 9 October 1927, in her 90th year. They are buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
