Margaret Jane Garvin was born on 27 March 1866 in Glasgow, Scotland – the daughter of William Garvin and Margaret McMillan. (See 90 Margaret Ewing)
Her mother married John Ewing in 1869 and she emigrated to Otago in 1880 on the Canterbury with her family.
She married John Barron in New Zealand in 1885. They had one daughter, Adelaide, in 1902. When she signed the suffrage petition Margaret was living in Stafford St, Dunedin, with John - Margaret was a shopkeeper and John a railway porter.
John Barron died in 1938 and Margaret on 30 May 1940. They are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
