Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Emma Bearnard was born about 1833 in London, England.

She was married to Thomas Walker Bearnard, a carpenter, and they appear to have come to New Zealand in the 1860s.

When Emma signed the suffrage petition they were living in George St, Dunedin.

Thomas died in 1903 and Emma died on 15 October 1923.

She left all her worldly goods to All Saints’ Anglican Church in Dunedin of which Emma and Thomas were founding members.

They are buried together in the Northern Cemetery.
