Amy Amelia Cursey was born in Hobart, Tasmania on August 24th 1865, the daughter of Daniel Cursey, a mariner, and Sarah Eyles.

She came to Otago with her family in the 1870s. She married Nesbit Galloway Binnie, a clicker, on February 22nd 1888 in Dunedin.

They had three children, and when Amy signed the suffrage petition they were living in Castle St, Dunedin.

In the late 1890s they moved to Wellington, where Nesbit died in July 1927.

Amy died later that year on December 6th. They are buried together in the Karori Cemetery.
