Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Eleanor Conroy was born about 1857 in Ireland.

She married Joseph Barnes Borton, a gold receiver, on 6 April 1881 at Cottenham, Clarks Flat, near Lawrence in Central Otago.

They had six children and, in 1883, they sold their property at Clarks Flat and moved to Roxburgh.

In 1890 they retired to Dunedin and when Eleanor signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Caversham.

Joseph died in 1924 and Eleanor died on 3 August 1927 – they are buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
