Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Catherine O’Neill was born about 1854 in Ireland.

She emigrated to New Zealand where she married David Bourke in 1879.

They lived in Milton where David ran the Camp Hotel until he was declared bankrupt in 1880.

They then moved to Dunedin and had 11 children, three who died in infancy.

When Catherine signed the suffrage petition they were living in Hall St, South Dunedin.

Catherine died on 9 June 1909 and David died in 1923 – they are buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
