Rebecca Elizabeth Dundon was born in New Zealand in 1869 – the daughter of Michael Dundon and Rebecca.

She married Charles John Champness, a tram conductor, in Victoria, Australia in 1890 and they had a son in 1891 before returning to New Zealand and settling in Dunedin.

When Rebecca signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Elm Row. Their daughter was born in 1897 and the family moved to Christchurch in the 1890s.

Rebecca died on 17 February 1917, she is buried in the Linwood Cemetery.

Charles died in 1955, he was cremated and his ashes buried in the Waikumete Cemetery, Auckland.
