Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Marion Jamieson was born about 1840 in the Shetland Islands.

She married fisherman Andrew Christie on 27 December 1860 in Sandsting and Aithsting and they had five children before the family emigrated to Otago in 1876 on the Timaru.

They settled in Dunedin where their last child was born in 1880.

When Marion signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Rockyside, Caversham where Andrew worked as a butcher.

Andrew died in 1923 and Marion died at her home on 12 September 1930 – they are buried together in the Southern Cemetery.
