Mary Ann Gardner was born about 1844, possibly in England.
She had five children with William John Crawford, a miner, before their marriage in Hokitika in 1882.
Their last child was born nine years later.
Mary signed the suffrage petition in Greymouth.
William died in 1912 and Mary died on 19 March 1921 – they are buried together in the Karoro Cemetery.
