Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Jessie Mary Smith was born about 1874.

She married David Wassell Pemberton on 3 April 1893 in Dunedin and when she signed the suffrage petition they were living in Clark St, Caversham.

Jessie and David had nine children and travelled around the country due to David’s job as stationmaster with the railways.

They lived in Stirling, Culverden and Waikouaiti before retiring to Petone where David died in 1925 – he is buried in the Karori Cemetery.

Jessie remarried in 1930 to John Clark – she died on 17 November 1948 and is buried in the Taita Cemetery, Hutt Valley.
