Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Flora McKenzie was born about 1851 in Ross and Cromarty, Scotland.

She married Captain William Storm, possibly a widower, in Invernesshire on 22 November 1869.

They had two sons, one who died in infancy.

By 1881 Flora was a widow - she married Adam Donaldson, a boat builder and widower with four children in Edinburgh in 1883.

Flora and Adam had two daughters before the family, including Flora’s son Robert, sailed for New Zealand on the Ionic in 1888.

A further two children were born after their arrival and when Flora signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Cameron St, Kensington, Dunedin.

Shortly after this the family moved to Bluff where Flora died at the Southland Hospital on 13 February 1898.

Adam re-married in 1903 and he died in 1924, they are buried in the family grave in the Bluff Cemetery.
